My Students

My students, from Brooklyn, NY, are a culturally diverse group of children. Print-rich and visual scaffolds are an essential part of a pre-kindergarten learning environment. PS101K is a Title One school, which means most students are from a low or below poverty level family. My pre-kindergarten program would greatly benefit from a colored printer and ink, so I can incorporate engaging, colorful materials into daily activities.

My Project

Visuals provide students with support and guidance during each lesson. In pre-kindergarten, students are entering a classroom for the very first time and would greatly benefit from a colorful, print-rich environment. Black and white printouts do not reflect reality and are sometimes, not as effective as colored copies. I feel with a color printer, my instruction will be more effective for my young learners. I will be able to print visuals, anchor charts, and worksheets in color to ensure all students are engaged in each activity.

More specifically, children with special needs can struggle with focusing and I feel that colored visuals will keep my students engaged and interested.

When using colored visuals, I notice that all students are naturally drawn to them.

Overall, I feel that using colored copies and lesson supports will be a great contribution to my pre-kindergarten class. I have seen how a small addition such as a colored printer can contribute to a more positive learning environment and hope I can give that to my students!
