My Students

I am the teacher of vibrant, excited students who tumble into my classroom daily ready to learn and explore the world around them. Our classroom is a haven from my students' surrounding community: gang activity and the attributes of poverty abound. One hundred percent of our students receive free meals. The families are very grateful for this gift.

When they come to school, my students come with a growth mindset.

They know that they themselves are the agents of change. They try their utmost and understand that hard work is the gateway to change and opportunities.

My Project

Our school has limited funds to help create materials for our students. I recently became a first-grade teacher after teaching upper grades for almost two decades.

I am in need of ink to create colorful materials and centers to help enhance my classroom environment and to help my students become engaged in small group settings.

I plan to create a colorful word wall where they can reference high-frequency words to help them with their reading and writing activities. I also plan to create materials to help them with their phonics and phonemic awareness. I see the difference in their reactions to high-quality, color materials as opposed to black and white copies.
