Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Special Education students in an urban, poor community are typically at great risk. Mine are no diferent. I teach 6th-8th grade students in a special ed. resource program. My students have poor reading, writing, and language skills; are mostly bilingual-bicultural students, and are delightful. Our school is proud of our accomplishments in the short time since we opened in 2003, our test scores have risen steadily, our students have achieved a number of honors, and our programs of cultural arts and awareness have helped to put us "on the map." We have an active LSC and a parents group that is tireless. Staff are dedicated, and the administration is supportive. We just don't have much money to purchase things which other schools may receive as a matter of course. The reason I am writing this proposal is that I want to give my special ed. students the opportunity to prepare papers and projects of which they can be proud. Toward that end, a color printer would be useful. There are only three color printers in the building. In today's visual/video world black-and-white seems out-dated to the kids. I would like to provide the option of printing in color right in the classroom. I think the students will be inspired to be creative when they see the end product. Of course, the next proposal I will be writing is the one asking for ink, once I find out what kind this printer uses! I would appreciate your strong consideration of this proposal as one worthy of your support. If you know anything about special ed. students, you might know that they can be easily discouraged, yet, given support, they are exceptionally grateful. I hope you will support this cause.
