This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, our theatre students are gong create scenic, costume, makeup, and prop designs. Unfortunately, our stock of color pencils just don't cut it!

Our Title I school district is in a high-risk community where most students are minority and low-income.

I teach middle school drama / speech grades 6 - 8. Though our students struggle at times to succeed, they are passionate, imaginative kids who deserve the chance to experience a creative learning environment.

My Project

The primary goal of our technical theater class is understanding how the technical elements of theater come together to contribute to the overall environment of the play. Our students develop focused ideas for the environment using visual elements and principles and aural qualities from a variety of sources. The students work together to design elements of scenery and properties represent environments, and costumes and makeup to show character. In order to create these designs, we need color pencils. Unfortunately, we have more students than we do materials.

If we had several large packs of color pencils and more black pencils, it would be much easier to create our technical theatre designs without having to wait to get access to tools.
