Help Ms. Kennedy

Los Angeles is the entertainment capital of the world and just 20 miles away from Lincoln, a low economic urban high school. Hollywood remains primarily a white,male business; 81% of our students are Hispanic, 16% are Asian, the remainder African-American, Caucasian, Native American Indian. Even when cost-cutting, Hollywood means glamor and exorbitant salaries and "bling", while more than 85% of our students qualify for Title I (low income), and a high percentage of English Language Learners (ELL) with 50% drop out rates prior to graduation. The school has re-organized into small learning communities to give students more personalized individual attention and focus on career pathways. I am the co-lead teacher of the Law & Public Service Academy, and I teach English, Law and Filmmaking (audio-visual lab requirement for graduation). We made our first PSA video, using borrowed equipment, called "Know Your Rights". We hope to make a series of twelve videos on the legal rights of teens. I have four very old computers for students to use to write papers, create film scripts and story boards, but they have no printer. My classes need a color laser printer so they can create scripts and storyboards before filming.
