A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My special education students from Texas are students who love to learn new things. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation. They work very hard to overcome their deficits and achieve success. They work well with manipulatives, hands-on learning activities, social skills, and sensory time. My students work on their level for math, writing, reading, science, and social studies, and become more independent every day.
My Project
All of my students want to learn to communicate. My class is made up of students with different communication levels. In class I create icons for communication and schedules to provide the opportunity for my students to increase their communication skills, even those who do not speak. This helps them with asking and answering questions and it also helps to build the self-esteem that they need. Visual icons are great for the students because they can practice on their own and at home and provide words for those who do not speak. As they progress, they will be able to do independent work and to be able to practice socialization. The color printer will allow me to provide color icons for the students. First and foremost, it will give all students the materials they need to increase their ability to say and make words.
