My Project

By giving my students an opportunity to learn about history using a hands-on approach will really increase their chances of remembering the material and developing a love for learning. During the Covid 19 pandemic, students were at home and learning through computers and not learning with their peers in an environment that is engaging and fun. I teach 75 students for social studies and this project will help my students create and participate in a colonial fair by giving them props, costumes, and materials to recreate times in colonial America. The students will create different businesses and dress up as people from colonial times so they can experience history instead of just reading about it. They will learn to embroider and make small pillows to give to their parents as gifts, plus learn new skills, such as writing with quill pens on antique paper. They will read about colonial times with two new books and sharpen their pencils with our new pencil sharpener. There will be post-it notes, markers, and even cloud covers for the lights in the classroom to help recreate a colonial atmosphere. The donations to this project will help to improve my student's understanding of and competency in authentic, meaningful learning about colonial times in America. This project will create long-lasting memories with their peers through hands-on activities and will hopefully give the students a reason to want to come to school and eventually become lifelong learners.
