This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine taking the AP Calculus exam without a graphing calculator? Is it possible to pass the exam if you don't know how to use this important tool? It's impossible! Please help them start their college career with an advantage, instead of a disadvantage.

My school is a high school that caters to students who have made mistakes in their past, but who just need someone to believe in them and give them another chance.

It's located in a low socioeconomic community where teens are forced to make difficult choices, such as working to help their families or staying in school and getting a college education. Our students would be the first person in their family to attend college and need all the support we can provide.

My Project

A graphing calculator is a very important and necessary tool for Calculus. It helps students understand such concepts as how changing one term in an equation changes the shape of a graph. It also allows the student to do quick calculations while concentrating on understanding the important mathematical concepts. The graphing calculator can be shared among all the students. The TI Smart Emulator projects the calculator via computer to a large screen, where it can be viewed by all students during the lesson. This tool allows the teacher to demonstrate all the tools available for solving Calculus problems. It would allow students to see first hand how to operate the calculator without having to purchase one for each student.

At more than $150 per calculator, our families cannot afford to purchase one.

It is absolutely necessary that each student fully understand how to use a graphing calculator for the exam. Without this knowledge, there is no chance they will be able to solve more than 50% of the problems, ensuring failure. Please help them be successful. Be the one person who believes in them and gives them that one chance they need to become successful adults who can positively contribute to society.
