My Students

As a second year teacher in a high needs school, I've been able to learn more about the unique challenges my students face. At the same time, I've seen the incredible amount of resiliency and strength they hold.

My students come to school courageously, seeking to rise above their emotional and learning difficulties.

The primary disabilities my students face are learning disabilities and emotional/behavior disorders. Because of this, we work together to create a learning environment that supports them, empowers them, and helps them understand what it means to be a diverse learner.

My Project

Help my students learn the organizational and study skills they need to succeed in college and beyond! Not only will they utilize the skills they learn in my class, but it will help them to succeed in the rest of their high school courses and career.

We will work together to create a system for organizing work, managing assignments, and monitoring progress.

Students will learn the responsibility skills necessary for tracking their work, ensuring all work is completed on time, and collecting notes to prepare for assessments. While the impact will be evident in the classroom specifically, the implications will extend beyond the classroom and into real world situations, including college, jobs, and financial management.

Each student will receive a three-ring binder with a set of 5-tab dividers. They will create the following sections: Warm-Up, Class Notes, Classwork, Homework, and Miscellaneous. Additionally, they will have a three-ring pencil pouch; this will ensure that they always have the writing utensils and supplies they need to be prepared for a successful class period.

Students will be able to utilize chart paper during group projects and as a way to display student work. Additionally, bulletin boards will be utilized to display excelling work and student growth.

Ms. Berry Overbrook High School Grades 9-12

Celebrate Black teachers and kids! This project supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of students are Black.
