My Students

I teach a diverse group of artistic students at a Title I visual and performing arts school in downtown Los Angeles. Students come to our school from all over the city to our public high school to receive a top notch education in both academics and their chosen art form (music, dance, visual or theater) and go on to study at some of the top academic colleges and art schools across the country.

I am always looking for ways to motivate my students in my classroom with innovative and exciting learning opportunities.

My Project

Our school is proud to say that 99.3% of our students graduated from high school last year even though our school district has a much lower graduation rate. It was a continuing school effort that we are very proud of. However, only 57% of our students go on to attend a 4 year college and we want to change that.

With the requested college pennants, all of our classrooms and offices will proudly display the colleges attended by our teachers and staff.

These will add life to our college corners and spark conversations with students about pursing post-secondary options. Did you know that the mascot of UC Santa Cruz is Sammy the Slug? We hope our kids will learn this too! In our school, students study both the arts and academics. The requested college pennants will be such an important visual representation and learning tool, as we support students in setting and achieving their goals and helping students see the connection between their studies in our classes and their future.

This is a big request but it will have such a dramatic and lasting effect on our entire school culture. Thank you so much for your consideration.
