This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are those who have learning, emotional as well as spectrum-disorders, but who deserve no less of a future than our students who aren’t differently abled. They are intelligent -hilarious - heart-warming kids who make me love coming to work every day of the past 21 years that I have as a special educator in East Harlem. Lately, I’m noticing how few resources my students and I have to practice what they need to succeed in the future —whatever future that may be that they choose. Some may need practice using an ATM while others may need practice creating resumes, showcasing how they can creatively problem solve, and work with others to solve problems in ways others that didn’t grow up how they did may not have ever thought of. My students deserve to be on that same level playing field as others to be able to follow the dreams that their hearts desire and their souls speak to them! As their teacher, it is not just my job but my responsibility to prepare them for these futures —whatever they may be! Help me do this - as I promise you they are born to accomplish outstanding things for their communities -for people in general -and for our world! They are just waiting here in Ms. Gill’s Room 301 in East Harlem for that spark to ignite their passion!
