This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a middle school in the infamous east zone of Fort Myers, Florida. The east zone is one of the neediest zones in Fort Myers. A lot of the students come from migrant parents and unstable housing situations. The school is made up of about 28% of students who identify as Caucasian, 16% of students who identify as African- American, 54% of students who identify as Hispanic, and 2% as other. About 80% percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

In a school where students have so many different needs, access can mean and look like a lot of things.

My students lack appropriate access to technology. This leads to my students having a lack access to information about the real world.

My Project

One of the biggest reasons I enjoy my job is because I can provide kids of all backgrounds a leveled playing field. When provided with a leveled playing field my students are able to do amazing things. Having the proper supplies provides access to all students. This helps me create a leveled playing field for all kids.

The materials I am requesting will help provide students with accommodations, enrichment, and access.

I teach students with several different learning styles this means that I need to use all of the time I am provided with them. I requested paper and ink because I am able to make the simplify the note-taking process. This helps me provide accommodations and extra time for my students. The pencil sharpener will help me with my classroom management since I won't have to spend time in class using a manual sharpener. The cleaning supplies will help me provide sanitize my students' desk to help them feel comfortable. The desk organizer will help me create a station where students will pick up any supplies they are missing.
