My Project

My students are from every corner of New York City and reflect the cultural richness of the most diverse borough on the planet: Queens. At least 30 different languages are spoken at this school. Our high school in Queens is a rigorous, public high school and early college program where some students receive an AA degree while all receive some college credit, for free!

Many of my students achieve firsts in their families, the first to study in the United States, the first to attend college, and the first to receive a degree.

Working with my students is beyond rewarding. They are inspirational in their commitment to their own education and to bettering their society for others like themselves. A collaborative reading group, in which students read an inclusive narrative together, will encourage reading for pleasure and will help them see themselves reflected in the literature. Collaborative reading additionally helps students support each other through the stressful rights of passage the endure as juniors and seniors.

I remain committed to supporting them with the types of academic, social and emotional programming, such as collaborative reading clubs hosted in the library, that can complement their studies and support their wellbeing.
