I am a new kindergarten teacher in a low/no budget/income neighborhood in Brooklyn. My class does not even get playtime. I am starting to create centers for the children in order for them to have the opportunity of hands-on learning, as well as some playtime, which they do not have right now. I am looking for a rug for them to be able to read comfortably (on a rug) instead of the cold floor or at their desks all day. The math wall is done while sitting at their desks as well, where some of the students are unable to see the math wall without standing up. For the science center I think they would benefit from a sand/water table. They would be able to experience play while learning. They think playing with clay is a prize. I want them to learn what play can really be, while educating them. All they know now is reading and writing all morning, and math all afternoon. Please help me help them! Thanks! I want this for my students.
