My Project
After 20 years of teaching in inner-city NYC, I have come to believe that the key to reaching your students is simply taking care of their basic needs of safety, warmth, and love.
So as cold and flu season are approaching, I thought to myself, “What can I do to meet these basic needs of my kiddos?” I know sometimes they just need something warm in their bellies, so I purchased ramen soup and packets of hot chocolate, but I need a quick and efficient way to heat water, hence the electric kettle.
I have a large Clorox Air Purifier to remove contagions that cause cold/flu/Covid/allergy particles very effectively, but my carbon/hepa filter is over a year old and needs to be replaced. Finally, we have cold weather and snow coming soon, so outdoor recess will be less and less until spring. I have some very “energetic” kiddos who would greatly benefit from a quick vibration workout to release some steam and then be able to come back to learning and concentrate.
So as you can see, I just want my kiddos to show up. A big part of that is just meeting their basic needs. Can you help?
