My Project

Our students love learning new skills and using them to serve their community and peers. Many students begin learning new skills by having a part time job, but there are very few job opportunities in rural Alaska specifically for high school students. I hope to use the materials from this project to open a coffee bar in our school. My students will use their work study hour to learn to use the machines provided by this project and make coffees for their teachers and peers as orders come in via email. This project will provide numerous opportunities to develop life and work skills (operating basic machinery, communication, checking email regularly, and time management) outside of the normal classroom setting. Developing their life skills will help them beyond the classroom and prepare them for life outside of rural Alaska.
