Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students range from the ages 11-13 years old. They are students in The Bronx, New York. Our school is for students with special needs. My students are living with autism and have severe speech, cognitive, and some physical impairments. My students are working to achieving their individualize education goals. Some of my students are even preparing to transition to high school.

The students in my class come ready to learn each day, however they are currently lacking the resources needed to make this possible on a higher quality basis.

With a classroom of all boys it leads to pretty interesting topics of discussion.

My Project

Everyone is interested in technology these days, including my students with autism. My students show great interest in coding and reading books on interactive tablets. They are currently sharing tablets to further their interest in coding, story development, as well as reading. In our class the two Fire 7 Tablets will make it easier for students to work on their individual coding and reading assignments.

The use of the tablets will increase my students reading levels as well as their social interactions.

The use of the headphones will allow them to cancel out any distractions and focus on their assignments without disturbing each other. Using programs on the tablets they will be able to use their creative skills to develop stories. They will work as a team to edit and develop their stories.

Therefore the donation of these materials will help my skills develop social skills, teamwork skills, reading skills, cognitive skills, as well as develop the confidence to be creative and give things a try just like coding.
