My Students

You might not think that programmers are artists, but programming is an extremely creative profession. It's logic-based creativity. - John Romero This quote strongly speaks to me as an educator, since I believe students need the opportunity to express their logical thinking on a creative platform.

I have a wonderful group of students who are hardworking and enthusiastic about their learning, especially when it comes to working with computers.

However, our school is a California public school located within an economically disadvantaged neighborhood. Therefore, many of my students have limited access to technology. Yet despite many of the challenges they deal with daily, they come to school with a smile on their face ready to learn with eager hearts and attentive minds.

My Project

I have requested materials that will introduce my students to programming through coding. Using Chromebooks and an HP mini laptop, my students will access websites such as code.org and Khan Academy to learn coding and implement strategies in order to create their own commands for future projects.

How are students supposed to be inspired to become computer programmers if they haven't been exposed to programming?

By receiving the materials I am requesting, the Chromebooks and HP mini laptop, my students will be able to learn about programming through hands-on experience and technology, in the hope that they will be inspired to become our future computer programmers.
