The students that I see each day in my three fifth grade classrooms come from a very small, rural farming town. A large percentage of our four hundred students are on our free or reduced price lunch program. We have students from all types of homes and with diverse backgrounds.
My students never cease to amaze me with what they can and have overcome.
They are sweet, beautiful souls who deserve my very best and that is what I strive to give them each and every day.
My Project
As a teacher in the 21st century, it is my job to prepare my students for the future by providing them with opportunities to learn how to be problem solvers. This specifically includes preparing them for future jobs that do not yet exist. How can we do this?
There are many tools, resources, and applications that can be used to enhance student learning and develop their lifelong learning skills.
The Sphero is one of these tools. Although it may appear to be a toy, it is learning in disguise. As my students learn to control the Sphero, what they are actually learning is the beginning steps of how to code. The Sphero can be used to not only transform teaching and learning across all content area classrooms, but it will also provide a great deal of motivation for students to continue pursuing a problem when it becomes difficult.
