Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is made up of diligent, inspiring, and creative fourth graders with big hearts and analytical minds. They attend school every day with purpose and a desire to learn something new, to discuss what they think, and take pride in their efforts. My students learn in a bilingual community with a high level of family support. They attend our school with growing technology opportunities that enhance their approach, application, and articulation of their knowledge and their new learning. We balance this with creativity and physical opportunities with that support the development of persistence, teamwork, and determination.

My Project

My students are learning Computer Science for the first time. Coding is a huge motivator for my students as they enjoy the various challenges. My students are exploring coding with diverse programs on different devices. Coding with Botley will add a new dimension of fun, challenge, and problem solving, especially with a tangible robot that can fulfill an infinite number of physical challenges.

I would love my students to experience coding the Botley way in order to establish a strong coding foundation.

The Botley system will allow students to set up their own challenge courses, establish sequences, and run their programs. This opportunity will support their understanding from being both the challenge creator and the challenge competitor. It will engage students in problem solving opportunities

Botley will allow my students to then take their enthusiasm for coding to mentor their Kindergarten partners. My students will introduce their Kindergarten partners to coding through shared experience time as they teach them the basics of coding with their help (as their mentors). The benefits to both sets of students will be incredible.

Botley will impact my students by extending their opportunities to understand computer science. They will experience being the developers of challenges, challengees, and by mentoring their Kindergarten partners as they introduce them to coding basics.
