This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an energetic group of twenty-six third grade students at an elementary school in the Bronx. We are a Title I school with a variety of needs in our classroom.

My students love to learn and are motivated to become better every day!

We are excited to come to school and are eager to learn new things. We are creative, love math and science, and are extremely motivated to succeed.

My students deserve the best in order to help them succeed in third grade!

My Project

Third grade is an exciting year! This year, my students are becoming computer scientists and are engaging with a computer science curriculum multiple times per week in our classroom! The read alouds about Grace Hopper, Ada Lovelace, Mae Jemison, Margaret Hamilton and more will help all of my students envision themselves as computer scientists and see the possibilities for their new skills. We will use these books to help us learn about computer science concepts and approaches and learn about how people for many years have been making new discoveries thanks to the help of math, science, and computers!

Of course, who doesn't love to be comfy when they read!

The blue seat cushions will allow my computer scientists the ability to have something soft to sit on as they work on their coding projects and read these new books. They will also become a great behavior incentive for students for the rest of the year as I plan on giving these special cushions to my "table of the week" winners and rotating for students each week.

I have also included some new books to be added to our classroom library so my students can continue to develop their reading skills. The Fly Guy books are classroom favorites and adding more of these titles will allow all my students the opportunity to read about Fly Guy's adventures. I have also included some computer and technology books for my students who want to learn more about the new skills they are learning in our classroom.
