My Students

Students at my exceptional high school come from all walks of life with a wide range of academic and creative abilities. My students are enrolled in a Foundations in Programming course which is an introduction to basic coding and computer science.

My hope is to encourage students to explore Computer Science at an early age in the hope that they will gravitate towards these much in demand, high paying jobs.

Students at my school are extremely motivated and we have some awesome Career Academies to help give students a taste of different careers. I'd like to see more students think of Computer Science as a future career!

My Project

My students have been working hard on block based programming for the last few months. They have and are continuing to create projects and games using SCRATCH. We also used block based programming to create mobile apps!

My students are ready for a challenge and programming games in Python is the path we have decided to explore!

We really enjoyed the instructional layout and formatting of the DK books we used for SCRATCH and just as luck would have it, there are Python books in the same series.

I am requesting a class set of books for my students to learn the basics of Python and learn how to program games. I have several students, across all high school grades, with a wide range of programming experience. These books will allow me to differentiate instruction for my students while helping them gain the confidence they need to learn text-based programming. My students like most high schoolers love games and the ability to actually play and share a game they programmed themselves, would be a great incentive to learn Python.

My goal is for my students to be able to take and pass a Microsoft Python Certification Exam by the end of the school year. This will give them the tools and qualifications to begin seeing the possibility of a career as a Computer Scientist!
