This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For the past 5 months, I have been exploring the teaching of science (and in particular environmental science) in Singapore through a teacher exchange program. As part of my visit here, I had a chance to see lessons, classrooms, after-school activities, and general instruction and one thing is clear: we need more emphasis on coding, engineering, and allowing students to connect real-world applications to the content in our syllabus.

One of the most unique projects I witnessed here was something I'd love to try with my own physics students—a challenge of sorts, involving students innovating designs and programming of autonomous delivery vehicles (drones) to address inequities in access to medication, supplies, and other goods for areas and people in developing countries or areas.

Students will utilize coding and programming of DJI drones to execute commands, and learn about physics and aeronautics. They can use our maker space to 3D print delivery boxes, try out various designs and rise to the challenge of learning physics, tech, and design through coding.
