Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Each year, NYC hosts LEGO coding competitions where students are tasked with coding a robot to complete a specific challenge. This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to develop critical skills in coding, problem-solving, and teamwork. However, one of the biggest challenges in forming a team is acquiring the necessary equipment. With the right tools, students can not only compete but also gain valuable experience that will support their future career paths.

The equipment I’m requesting will make a lasting impact by providing reusable technology that can be used year after year.

Access to these tools will allow my students to practice coding, robotics, and collaboration—skills essential in today’s job market. My goal is to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields, offering them experiences that could open doors to opportunities they might not otherwise have.

My students are special because they come from low-income backgrounds and face significant financial barriers. Despite these challenges, they are bright, motivated, and eager to learn. Without access to equipment like robotics kits, many students would miss out on this transformative learning experience. By providing these resources, I aim to equip them with the skills needed to break the cycle of poverty and prepare for successful careers in technology and engineering.

This project will not only enable my students to participate in citywide competitions, but also provide them with the hands-on learning experiences that will build confidence and career skills—empowering them to thrive in the future.
