Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school and my students are excited to explore, to learn, and to broaden their horizons just to be given the opportunities that other children take for granted.

My students are sons and daughters of first generation immigrants who struggle sometimes to find the right path to success but they put forth maximum effort when given the right motivation.

They are unique in the sense that they are high achievers, despite facing the typical immigrant population challenges. Our overwhelming Hispanic population needs support but, given the right tools, will perform at a high level.

My Project

These resources will be paramount in developing basic coding skills which my students' need to hone the skills required. The iPad mini and the iPod touch will help them access lessons that will be used as a stepping stone, prior to advancing to more complicated programs such as VEX IQ software and Robot C.

Furthermore, by teaching them how to start using block-coding through these devices, my students can access coding programs that will be critical to program bots in the VEX IQ modality.

To be sure, these handy devices will be deployed to access digital platforms such as Code.org and Cs2n.Org which provide lessons with short videos and quizzes to learn coding. Additionally, other applications such as Quizlet, Nearpod, kahoot, Quizizz make lessons in content extremely interactive and provide immediate feedback. These resources will tremendously aid in the delivery of the lesson by increasing enthusiasm and enlivening the lessons by making them more interactive, immediate and therefore much more engaging.
