Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school students have little to no access to creative learning opportunities in the field of computer science. Their access to computers on campus to learn coding and to develop computational thinking skills is non-existent. Computers are primarily used for math intervention and testing.

The school my students attend is a Title One public school where all students receive free meals.

The majority of my students come from a low socioeconomic background. It is for this reason that access to computers in their homes is limited or not available at all. My students are eager to learn about advances in technology, but they lack access to devices and basic internet service. The access my students do have is when they are at school; however, their use of computers at school is limited to intervention, interim assessments and end of year testing. Class electives that teach them anything related to computes are not available for my students. Computer science, specifically coding and computational thinking-necessary skills for the demands of the 21st century-would further provide equity and access for my students.

My Project

My students will use the new microsoft surface book to learn how to create a web page using HTML for our Algebra 1 class .

They will use the donated tablet to print and edit their culminating experience summaries and present them to parents during open house . They will also use the tablet to login to codecademy.com to learn how to code.
