Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at our school are energetic and full of joy! Most of our students live in the vibrant and historic neighborhood of Boyle Heights in East LA. Many of them will be first generation college students. We are preparing them be powerful forces in their community and in our nation.

We honor each of our students as scholars and leaders.

They love to be challenged, especially in projects where they can experiment and create. Our students are encouraged to collaboratively solve problems. They support each other in becoming their best selves.

My Project

I applied for and received a grant to cover the registration costs for the FIRST LEGO Professional Development at the NASA Space Center in Houston, but need help for the flight and lodging. During the training, I will learn how to implement the LEGO League Jr. Discovery program with our youngest engineers: kindergarteners and first graders.

This project will allow me to expand the current curriculum of our Coding and Robotics Club.

Four years ago, I founded our first school club, a robotics club for first graders. Since then I've attended professional development from CODE.org and been able to incorporate coding principles into our lessons and practice. Last year I was able to offer the club to both kindergarten and first grade students. After attending this professional development, I will have additional tools and knowledge to bring engineering with LEGOs to these students.
