Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This is a 2nd grade dual language (English-Mandarin) class of about 23 students in District 1 in Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York City. Most of my students come from low-income families, and my school is a Title I school. Many of them receive free lunches based on their socioeconomic status.

Despite the many challenges they face (such as little food at home), my students are always so smiley, so kind, thoughtful, and so generous.

They will save their snacks and surprise me by leaving snacks such as an apple, a banana, or a pack of cranberries on my desk! Their words, "You need brain food!" made my heart melt! They are intelligent, fun loving, creative, and very spontaneous.

I am looking to provide my students with hands-on, fun, and meaningful learning experiences. I need your help to make that possible.

My Project

This subscription for game-based learning of Code Monkey will allow my students to learn how to code. My students will learn to be active users of technology and might one day land them on a job in our increasingly tech-driven world. Children learn best when they have fun. This project is part of my project to "gamify" my classroom by bringing in educational game kits such as Code Monkey and Building Bridges kits.

Through coding and building bridges as part of my project to gamify my classroom, I'm hoping to equip my students with the necessary 21st century skills to help them succeed in this information age.
