Coding and Critical Thinking Through 3D Printing

Help me give my students practice using a 3 D printer because they will need this knowledge in the future as they prepare for many jobs.

My Project

In years past we have had a 3D printer at Bennett Elementary School. We created many amazing projects. It enriched many projects throughout the building. Unfortunately, the printer broke and was not repaired or replaced. I would like to get another printer so our students can add to their classroom projects while using coding and technology skills to get them ready for their future.

Our small school will utilize this printer in a variety of ways.

In the younger grades teachers will create a class print to go along with a theme and work through the steps of coding with the students. As the students get older they will be allowed to make different objects to enhance their own learning projects. Such examples of making animals after designing a slideshow over animal habitats, making outlines of states as we do state projects and our talented and gifted students would create objects that go along with their passion projects that they will work on.

I believe a 3D printer would be a great addition to Bennett Elementary because of all of the practical purposes we could use it for. It also brings projects to life, helping with students engagement. While students are learning different areas of our curriculum we can also prepare them for their future by coding and using technology. I believe the 3D printer is a win for Bennett Community School.
