Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We have almost 500 students enrolled at our campus. The majority of our students are English language learners and qualify for free lunch programs. We offer an after-school program that gives low socioeconomic students a variety of classes to choose from and develop certain skills. These range from cooking to computer coding. As the computer lab teacher, I see all students in class at least once a week.

They come eager to learn and excited to take on any challenge.

They look forward to the special classes they have available.

My Project

Students who develop a mastery of coding have a natural ability and drive to construct, hypothesize, explore, experiment, evaluate, and draw conclusions according to Merle Huerta's article on edutopia.com.

Coding in the classroom is linked to improved problem solving and analytical reasoning.

I want to teach my students how to code. Instead of writing in a Java language, they will manipulate toys to symbolize the command lines. With the toys I selected, students have to work together to program the mouse to go through the maze and find that cheese.
