My Students

"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known" - Carl Sagan

As a teacher of high school students on the autistic spectrum, I am inspired and amazed on a daily basis by the skills my students display.

Differentiated instruction is key to learning. The skills my students display vary greatly. Many of the skills in my classroom are "splintered", where students show they are proficient in one area, while they may struggle in others. Students are responsible for working in small groups with the teacher, as well as working independently at "workstations". The purpose of workstations is to mimic responsibilities that students might have out in the job world, such as organizing, sorting by category, and making change.

My Project

The Code-a-Pillar is an ingenuous creation to introduce instruction of computer programming. The Learning Mouse is next in the sequence, followed by The Ozobots. When students master programming the movements of the Ozobots, students will be able to program Sphero and conduct experiments in speed. Finally, students who have become proficient in block coding, will be able to program Dash & Dot robots to interact with one another by creating "If/Then" statements.

Programming is a skill in problem solving.

These items will provide a method of differentiated instruction in computer programming that would be inaccessible and unattainable in any traditional sense.
