I am a technology teacher. We are a proud Title I school that is STEM certified through the state of Georgia. As part of STEM, we have introduced our students to coding. It hasn't been easy and not always fun, but we have always learned.
It has been amazing to see the looks of joy when students begin to grasp coding.
The students at my school are in grades Kindergarten through 5th. They love to spend time with technology and have learned a lot this year, even through the continued struggles of the pandemic. I love being able to introduce the concept of coding and programming to our students, especially Kindergarten students. I can't even begin to explain the sense of awe students show when they begin to understand coding. This is a difficult concept for even me! But students at my school persevere and work hard to problem solve through the coding activities I have been able to introduce. Coding goes a long way in helping students learn how to problem solve.
For years, I have taught students at our school about coding and robotics. However, it has been difficult for our youngest grades, especially Kindergarten. I believe that the Lego Spike Essential kit can help close the gap for this age of students.
Lego's Spike Essentials will allow our Kindergarteners to create, build, and code with the most up to date technology. The curriculum used with the Lego Spike Essential kit will also touch upon standards that students are learning about in the core subjects of Math and Science. This should also help prepare our students for the future as they progress to the more difficult Lego Spike Prime robot that I use with grades 2-5.
