Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The extra clothing requested will ensure that students with autism have access to clean, comfortable clothing in case of accidents or emergencies, allowing them to stay focused on their learning without distractions. Students with autism often benefit from routine and predictability, so having spare clothing available provides a sense of security. It helps prevent anxiety or discomfort that could arise if a student is in an awkward or uncomfortable situation due to soiled or ill-fitting clothing. By reducing these potential stressors, students can engage in Lunar New Year activities, learning, and social interactions with confidence, allowing them to participate fully in the celebration.

The students in this project are special because they have unique needs, especially related to their autism, which can affect their sensory processing and response to changes in their environment.

Some students may be more prone to sensory sensitivities, which means that certain types of clothing, or being in an uncomfortable situation, could lead to distress. For many students with autism, routines and predictability are important, and unexpected disruptions—like needing a change of clothes—can cause anxiety or frustration. By ensuring that students have extra clothing available, we are helping to reduce these challenges and enabling them to focus on their learning, social interactions, and enjoyment of the Lunar New Year celebration. These students thrive when their physical needs are met, allowing them to feel calm, confident, and ready to learn.
