This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a Special Education teacher in an urban district who works with students with a wide variety of mental, emotional, physical, and learning disabilities in a self-contained classroom.

Many of these students will have additional disabilities such as autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs), challenging and/or self-injurious behavior, emotional disturbance, epilepsy, hearing impairment, physical impairment, severe impairment in communication skills and visual impairment.

The students in my room have limited communication skills and will therefore not have control of the multiple means by which other students communicate such as speech, body language, facial expressions and print.

My Project

We are excited to announce that a washer and dryer was recently donated to our school! For this reason, we now need a number of items needed to make this happen!! We would greatly appreciate supplies needed to help take care of personal hygiene needs as well as teaching daily living life skills to young children with special needs. In Special Needs Life Skills, our students learn a variety of functions that will enable them to navigate the world.

Doing Laundry--Daily Living Skills subjects include:

Organizing the laundry room, Sorting clothes by color, Using the washer/dryer, Use of products/measuring the amount of detergent needed, Adding dryer sheet to a dryer only, Cleaning lint traps, Placing clothes in a laundry basket, Folding clothes/finding symmetry using the folding tool, Hanging clothes, Clothes storage, and Handling special clothing

The laundry detergent and dryer sheets would get us off to a great start. It would greatly improve my students cleanliness throughout the day, which in turn, would greatly improve their hygiene.

Please help me help my students stay get and clean!
