My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, having enough materials and resources is always a challenge especially now. I rely heavily on donations in order to enhance the learning experiences of my 30 fourth graders. Our school is fully Title I, as approximately 59% of students come from low socioeconomic homes.

Despite the many home challenges they face, my students are still excited and motivated to learn.

I have a wonderful group of fourth graders and with schools closed for the remainder of the school-year, they have been forced to adapt to a distance learning model from home with either their own devices or loaned devices from the school.

I am doing my best to deliver daily video lessons to continue their learning for the remainder of the year, but my school computer is old, and students are complaining about lag and speed issues during the lessons that are in many cases due to my aging technology.

My Project

Who could have imagined in our modern times that schools across the country would be forced to close and we teachers would be video conferencing with students from home?

My incredible fourth graders have been so resilient and have adapted admirably to this new form of instruction!

They have become so independent, checking their daily schedule in Google Classroom, attending daily video conferencing lessons, and then completing their independent assignments online. As great as they have been given the circumstances, my school district laptop is five years old and is now having speed as well as connectivity/lag issues often interrupting the natural flow of lessons and causing delays in instruction while I reload and restart conferences and applications while students patiently wait.

Therefore, I am asking for a current generation iPad that I can use with Zoom to video conference, Google Classroom and Suite to assign lessons and provide individual feedback to students, show science and social studies videos from Discovery Education, display ebook versions of ELA and math textbooks, and use Notability as a digital whiteboard.
