My Project

Strong executive functioning skills are one of the biggest indicators of success both inside and outside of the classroom. Executive functioning skills include some of the most essential skills needed for successful learning. These skills include attention, planning, organization, time management, self-control, metacognition, perseverance, task initiation, flexible thinking, and working memory. Without these skills, students can have difficulties in areas such as but not limited to emotional regulation, school failure, low self-esteem, and the list goes on and on!

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, students have lost opportunities to practice and strengthen these skills through day-to-day experiences (school, playground, clubs, sports, etc.).

Making it difficult for them to focus, sit still, engaged, calm, etc. in class which are all needed for optimal learning and therefore, creating academic gaps and struggles.

The bright side: executive functioning skills can be strengthened through practice, supports, and experiences!

The materials I am requesting are geared towards strengthening my students' executive functioning skills in fun and engaging ways. Balance beams and tilt stools can help strengthen their attention and self-control skills; the wobble balance board and velcro strips can help students with sensory needs to re-regulate and refocus their minds for emotional well-being (also needed for learning!). My gift card will be used to purchase executive functioning workbooks to pair with these materials.

This in turn will increase not only academic performance but also overall social and emotional well-being both inside and outside the classroom!
