This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

The STEM bins provided for my 1st grade students will serve multiple purposes throughout our school day. In the mornings, before familiar reading begins, they will provide an engaging activity that allows students to ease into the day. During the day, they will also be used as a station for early finishers and during brain breaks or rest time. This approach replaces traditional morning work, which can be challenging for students who arrive late or need extra time to finish breakfast. Instead, students will enjoy 10-15 minutes of STEM Bin time, allowing them to settle in comfortably and start their day with a hands-on, enjoyable learning experience.

STEM bins are valuable in 1st grade classrooms, especially for students below grade level and from low-income backgrounds.

They offer hands-on learning that promotes creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Students collaborate, develop confidence, and see real-world applications of STEM concepts, all while using cost-effective materials that accommodate different learning styles.
