My Students

Open a child's eyes to their world. Show them how to love learning, and they'll never stop.

My students are struggling readers.

Who wants to keep doing something that is difficult? Not me. I need to captivate them. Motivate them. Show them what is possible. Last year, I took 2 of my fifth graders who were reading on a second grade level , and put them in charge of creating a movie to sum up their experiences at our school. They were given a meaningful task--use imovie to create a video message for your peers, families, and community. How quickly their drive changed. They had to plan, write, read, practice, record, choose the music, choose speakers, deliver their idea to administration for approval, and create. They far surpassed my expectations and their own. Future movie generations, look out.

My Project

I had to borrow the schools ipad. I used it around others' schedules. If my class had one of our own, inspiring students to think, learn, collaborate, share, present, and create, would be an everyday occurrence. I would definitely use imovie again. The pride students feel sharing their hard work with others. And the fact that they wanted to do it. I'd like to connect with schools around the world, so my kiddos can see the bigger picture. TED talks, Stopmotion apps for reading responses, twitter for meaningful discussions. And who knows what will be available tomorrow. One ipad, how many lives?

Endless possibilities with one device.

Motivating students to want to learn, to feel important, to collaborate with students around the world, giving students a way to discover their passions and share them. Helping to shape students who care about the world around them and want to learn. An ipad would sure help facilitate this goal.
