This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in the southwestern part of Houston and serves kids from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. We are a neighborhood school and a community in the truest sense of the word. We work very closely with our kids and their families to put them on the path to success. We are a diverse place in many ways and I am very fortunate to teach such a wonderful group of kids.

I have been incredibly fortunate to get support for projects in the past and the resources your generosity has purchased has helped my students use their imagination and go everywhere from Mount Olympus to Manassas, Virginia, but now I am seeking your help for the after school sports team I coach.

My Project

I coach the baseball team at my school. We started the program a couple of years ago. Most of our players are participating in organized school sports for the first time and being on the team is a great way to build confidence, make friends, and demonstrate commitment and persistence. A few years ago I read the book "Our Kids" by Robert Putnam that explored many of the challenges that young people face today. One of the most important things we can do as educators to improve lives is provide quality after school activities at no cost to our students.

We have slowly been building up the supplies that are necessary to compete in the game, but baseball is expensive!

One of the most important pieces of equipment we don't have is cleats. Cleats will help us run faster and keep traction in the field.

Your support will add one of the last important pieces of equipment we need and help a new generation succeed with America's pastime.
