This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students have different types of learning disabilities. However, that doesn't stop them from working hard to achieve their individual academic goals. My students struggle with communication, social/ emotional, and learning difficulties within the classroom and social settings. Unfortunately, we are not equipped with the appropriate PPE tools for speech therapy this year due to COVID-19. It is extremely difficult to work on sound production/ voice/etc using a mask. I would like to obtain a clear face mask for myself and my students. These clear face masks will allow us to see the production and placement of the student's articulators when practicing our drills. Some of my students are facing multiple deficiencies that make social situations extremely challenging. I feel students will feel safe in an environment that is conductive to learning.
My Project
Each student needs the opportunity to practice their skills in a safe COVID free environment. With clear masks and clear supply cases, each student would be able to utilize their mask during the speech session and leave them in school using their personalized supply case. In this case, we can keep their clear mask, pencils, crayons, and other supplies they need that they cannot currently share with others. Each student will have their own case, with their own supplies, which is a great way to prevent cross-contamination of materials.
