Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an inner city school in Los Angeles. Our students are from various backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Many of our students are English Language Learners (ELL) with roots in Latin America. The neighborhood is currently gentrifying, so we are developing a diverse population with many types of needs.

We are a STEM Magnet that caters to unique and motivated students in Los Angeles.

Our children love to learn and constantly challenge us to meet their unique needs and ignite their passion for learning.

The school is 100 years old and we have multiple generations of students who have attended the school. Although the neighborhood is changing, many of the families remain the same.

My Project

Our learning will begin online this year. Students and teachers will meet daily for virtual lessons. Students having access to devices will be vital for learning to occur. Each student will need a working device that can connect to Zoom meetings daily.

I am requesting 8 Fire tablets for students to use during distance learning.

Fire tablets will be used during zoom meetings. I will conduct lessons in all content areas via Zoom. Students will use their tablets to learn content and to participate in meaningful discussions with their classmates. The ability for students to see and hear each other will help build relationships and strengthen their social-emotional development. We will be using a program called Second Step where students watch videos, sing songs and have discussions about empathy and positive relationships.
