My Students

I provide school-based physical therapy for children with special needs as part of the NYC Department of Education. All of the students I have are so wonderful and give a lot of effort when it comes to their sessions. My primary goal as a school-based physical therapist is to improve my student's independence in support of their ability to access their educational environment. This includes supporting my students by improving their ability to go up and down the stairs by themselves or being able to climb the playground equipment so they can play with their friends. Whether it is slow and steady progress or big gains, I am reminded every day how lucky I am to be able to work with these students. I get to see the increased confidence and emerging personalities as they are able to overcome the challenges they have faced.

My Project

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected so many people in some form or another. As an educator, it is my responsibility that my students have a safe environment so they can focus on doing their best work without worrying about getting sick. Children are more susceptible of getting sick than adults because their immune systems aren't been fully developed yet. It's been difficult with my own teacher's choice budget ($80) to get enough of the necessary cleaning supplies like disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, and tissues. These get used up so quickly on a daily basis, it's hard to keep up. I am trying my best to keep the therapy room and other workspaces as clean as possible to keep the all the germs and bugs away. I am in serious need of some external support to ensure my students and I can continue to maintain a healthy classroom.
