My Students

At our Title I school in NYC, my students are faced with many challenges both in and outside of school. All students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch and many live in temporary housing.

The majority of our students struggle academically with little support outside of school.

School quickly becomes their second home.

Although I may not be able to control what goes on outside of school, I try my best to give them the greatest experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

Throughout the pandemic, the young students have had to make so many sacrifices that they are just don't understand yet. Last year, the PreK children had to sit and play on the floor because rugs were not allowed as they couldn't be properly cleaned and sanitized.

A soft, clean place to sit and play allows children to be more comfortable in their learning experience.

The foam mats and proper cleaning supplies will give the children a perfect place to listen to a story, play with blocks, or sing songs without having to worry about sitting on an old, hard floor. The ability to sanitize and clean the mats also gives the parents peace of mind that their child will be in a clean, safe environment.
