This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title I neighborhood school where all children receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of the children have had no preschool and this is the first time the children have been exposed to learning opportunities, including learning alphabet skills, book and print awareness, reading opportunities, and writing skills.
For many of the children, this is the first time they have held a pencil, used scissors and glue, and listened to stories being read.
The children come into the room, eager to learn and embrace new experiences.
My Project
When teaching kindergarten, you have many spills. Currently we eat breakfast, lunch and snack in the room, so crumbs are obviously left. Any time during arts and crafts lots of small paper is left on the floor. Not to mention the dirt that is dragged in off the playground especially on muddy days. With the business of the custodians not all spills, mud, or paper trash can be instantly cleaned up. Having a portable vacuum could help solve this problem. My assistant or I could easily grab the portable vacuum and clean up the mess, therefor keeping our class neat and presentable to everyone.
