Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our bands just keep growing! In the last three years, we've moved from two bands to three bands and, because our partners at our elementary schools are doing excellent things, we'll be moving to four bands next year. Which means more woodwind players who need swabs!
In our School district, 90% of our students are on the free or reduced lunch program.
With the exception of a lucky few, a large portion of our students use school instruments and instrument accessories. Our students have the privilege of joining band in the fifth grade and continuing through eighth grade. The number of our students continuing their music education into high school continues to grow each year as we build a stronger music community in Central Phoenix.
Our students are enthusiastic about music and practice several hours a week. Because our instruments are used by students every year, it is imperative that we take care of them, swabbing them out everyday.
My Project
Students will use swabs and cleaning cloths to clean out the moisture from playing everyday after rehearsals. By keeping our instruments clean, more students will be able to use instruments in the future. Cleaning our instruments also cuts back on bacteria build-up and helps keeps our students healthy.
Swabs and cleaning cloths may seem simple to others, but will make a huge difference at our school.
Our students like to take care of their instruments with pride and if each student had a swab or cleaning cloth, they could enjoy the responsibility of truly caring for their instruments.
