Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a second-grade teacher, working in an urban high-poverty area of New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and have diverse educational needs. However, what they all have in common is the beautiful excitement and love they have for learning.

During these uncertain and high stress times, students need even more love, support, and most importantly the feeling of being safe.

Even though most of them come from difficult backgrounds, they never stop trying and NEVER lose their love for learning. I truly love what I do, and I'm grateful to have such a great community of learners in my class! Every morning I am greeted with 30 huge smiles. I want my students to know that they are important, and I will do anything I can to keep them safe and help them reach their fullest potential because they deserve the best.

My Project

During this uncertain and often scary times, I want my parents to feel as comfortable as possible when they send their children back to school. In order to make this happen, I want to be as PREPARED as possible to keep my students as safe as possible.

Face masks/ shields and an air purifier in our classroom this year will GREATLY help with the health and safety of our students!

This extra tool in our classroom will help to ensure that the students and staff that enter will be breathing air that has been purified! Additionally, by wearing a mask plus a face shield will provide an extra barrier between the students as myself.

Lastly, I'd like to provide each student with their own "tool pack" that they keep in their desk to prevent unnecessary movement throughout the room. If each student has their own materials, there will be no overlap and sharing which will lead to fewer germs.

Please help me provide as much safety to our youngest learners during a time when they need it most.
