Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are from the South Bronx and they are resilient, funny, creative, and genuine. They are also extremely vulnerable, being from the poorest congressional school district in the country and the hardest hit neighborhood from COVID-19 in all of New York. My students are going to give their all this year in a hybrid learning model, and I want to give them every possible opportunity to succeed while they're in our building.

Our school is named after a powerful voice for change during the Civil Rights movement.

We try to honor her legacy by encouraging students to become community organizers, social justice warriors, volunteers, and interns. They are the future of NYC, and their safety and health is of utmost importance.

My Project

The safety of my students and their families is my top priority and having the best air filtration system available is something they deserve.

Our classroom will be socially distanced and at 40% capacity but that is simply not enough to ensure the safety and health of each student and adult.

In their article called "Air Cleaners, HVAC Filters, and Coronavirus (COVID-19)," the EPA states, "Portable air cleaners and HVAC filters can reduce indoor air pollutants that are airborne including viruses....When used along with other best practices recommended by CDC and others, filtration can be part of a plan to protect people indoors."

Students cannot learn if they do not feel safe, and these air filters will protect our students.
