My Students

Our school is a public magnet school. In past years, students traveled from all over town to attend our school. However, this year we are working remotely. Ours is an international themed, special admit public school and many students live below the poverty line. Since the pandemic began, students who already had challenges are struggling even more and families can’t afford art supplies. Despite the challenges of this pandemic, I want to provide something special for my Ceramics students as they work from home. Sculpie (non-drying clay) and clay tools for each Ceramics student, will give a opportunity to make 3D forms and stop motion animation.

My Project

How can students learn Ceramics while they are working from home? Traditional clay lessons require kiln firing and clay is very messy and not welcome by parents. Claymation is the answer. Non-hardening clay in a variety of colors will provide students an "outside the box" Ceramics class. Remote art classes are quite challenging, but there is a way to do it. My Ceramics students will experiment with Sculpie and learn lots of skills. They can make stop motion animation and even work in remote teams. This will be more fun than we expected.

Ceramics isn't just about throwing on a pottery wheel, Stop Motion Animation is a rigorous tool for self expression and skill building.

Claymation will give my Ceramics students a great experience this spring, pandemic or not.
