My school is an interesting and challenging mix of privileged students and students who wonder where the next meal will come from. Our school consists of a free and reduced-price lunch population of 30% which seems small unless you are one of that 30%.
My students who are in need of free food are also in need of extra attention, creative learning opportunities, love, and support.
They all deserve art. From kindergarten to 5th grade, every student at my school will have the opportunity to learn art with me next year. They have been without a quality art education for the last three years. Together we can make sure they are excited to enter the art room this year!
My Project
Many students have the chance to create 2D visual art pieces in a school setting however few get the chance to explore real clay in a three dimensional way. This school year I would love to guide my students to see art as more than just drawing and painting.
Students deserve to find their own expression in the art room and without the exposure to sculpture, many students will continue to think art is not for them.
My school has a kiln but no clay tools, aprons, or glazes. This project includes aprons to protect their clothing from the clay and glazes, tools to help them build and decorate their pieces, and glazes to finish the entire project. I need your help to make sure every student in my school has the chance to create art with their hands they can hold in their hands. Art education should include more than just painting and drawing!
