My Students

My students are energetic, creative and excited to learn! They love hands-on activities where they can connect what they learn in school to real life! As a second year NYC teaching fellow and DOE self contained teacher, I am more determined and prepared to tackle creating a vocation for my classroom and promoting independence.

My middle school special needs students are at a crucial age where they must learn vocational skills to prepare for career readiness!

They return to school every Monday expressing how much they missed school and how they're excited to learn. They are ready to try new things and grow both academically and professionally each day. It is my job to teach them and prepare them for their futures.

My Project

The fire tablets will help me teach my lessons using fun applications like Kahoot since my students love games included in their learning. The ipads will help me with my professional goal of incorporating student interaction more this year. The ipads are also a great way for me to keep track of my students progress in their IEP goals! We use many different applications to individualize their work and keep data on their progress.

The library cards, envelopes and dividers will help build a classroom library that will feature books each month that coincide with the monthly theme of our curriculum!

We will run our classroom vocation as the library. Other classrooms can come take out books, and we will also distribute books & material throughout the school too! Students will have certain jobs to help maintain the library. We will start by leveling the books to serve all reading levels, and organizing the donated books into themes. This will prepare them for job readiness and begin giving them opportunities to explore the possibilities they have for their future.

The glitter, wreaths, and foam paper will help us with our monthly crafts that we will create and sell through the school's gift shop! The next few months we will be making seasonal wreath's and decorative accents for doors. This will teach money skills and creativity!
